New Photos Coming !

I've just taken to the photo store 55 slides of various South Pacific destinations I visited during my extensive traveling days, and once these are digitized I'll put them up here with comments. They should start appearing in about a week.

I'll describe how I first visited the South Pacific, and various places I visited -- Tonga, the Northern Cook Islands, Samoa, Tahiti -- and some of the experiences I had there.

Hang in there. I'll be back with photos soon !

Pacific Encounters -- What This Blog is About

The Pacific is bigger than you might imagine. It covers one-third the surface of the earth.

At one point in my life I owned and operated a travel agency that specialized in bringing travelers to remote, untouristed areas. It was based on what the meaning of this blog implies -- that people would meet and interact with Pacific Islanders and Asians, that they would do what Europeans in the eighteenth century who took a year making "The Grand Tour" in Europe did -- that they would return home with a greater appreciation of who they are and their place on earth.

In more than 50 trips to the South Pacific, I learned a great about Pacific Islanders and Asians, and also about myself. That's what this blog is about. I am starting to write in mid-July, so for the first months the entries will be sparse. But I am scanning and digitally restoring many of the photos I took during my travels, and eventually you will see them here. So here we go ! Bon voyage !
